Most marine turtles live in the ocean. Their feeding habitats are on coral reefs. Unfortunately, the coral reefs are being damaged or destroyed completely as a result of sedimentation, nutrient run-off from the land, insensitive tourist development, destructive fishing techniques, and climate change. They are herbivores that feed on seagrass and algae as well.
The whale shark is the largest species of fish. They usually roam around alone, but sometimes they roam around in large groups in abundant plankton food. The distribution of whale sharks indicates the presence of plankton and the overall health of our oceans. They live in the ocean. Whale sharks are herbivores that mainly feed on phytoplankton and zooplankton.
Coral organisms are called polyps. They are tiny, soft-bodied organisms related to sea-anemones and jellyfish. At their base is a hard, protective limestone skeleton called a calicle, which forms the structure of coral reefs. Coral polyps are actually animals. They live in tropical waters throughout the world close to the surface where the sun's rays can catch the algae. Corals are omnivores and they eat things like shrimp, animals, algae, and plants.
Black corals are a group of deep water, tree like corals related to sea anemones. Other animals and corals use the skeleton of this coral in order to have a place to live, so they are used as habitats. They are also used by other species to lay their eggs in and also for a place to hide from prey.
